One hundred and forty three homes were harmed by the fire. Out of those only six have been decluttered of debris. It has been over 90 days since the Wooroloo bushfire affected families in Gidgegannup. Residents have been informed that the wreckage should all be cleared by July. It took two months for the neighborhood to see any clearance action. The state government has expressed that occupants should not engage insurance to aid with the clearance due to the provision that it is a free of charge service.
Ron Edwards, the State Recovery Controller assigned to this incident has stated that out of the one hundred and forty three homes there are twenty that present higher urgency to be cleared as they have asbestos. Teams are working to their best ability to speed through each property, but due to the variation in each dwelling size some can take five days to complete. The residents are now confronted with the choice of waiting two years for property rebuilds or relocation.
